September 2015 Job Numbers

Today, North Carolina’s September employment figures were released by the North Carolina Department of Commerce. Our State saw a decrease in unemployment from 5.9% in August to 5.8% in September. The number of people employed increased by almost 3,700 between August and September to nearly 4.48 million.

Since September 2014, the private sector has created 111,000 new jobs with the largest over-the-year increases in the following industries:

Professional & Business Services - 21,600 jobs

Leisure & Hospitality Services - 18,700 jobs

Trade, Transportation & Utilities - 16,600 jobs

Education & Health Services - 15,500 jobs

Manufacturing - 11,900 jobs

Construction - 10,100 jobs

Financial Activities - 8,800 jobs

Major industries experiencing a decrease over the year were:

Government - 3,400 jobs

Mining & Logging - 300 jobs
