EDT, 21 April 2009 | lewis seeks to rescind property tax appraisal raleigh, nc April 21, 2009: In response to news that the Harnett County Commissioners, along with three other counties, would not be allowed to rescind recently re-evaluated property values, Rep. David Lewis (R-Harnett) is filing a Bill to allow counties to rescind the recent property re-evaluation. Together with Rep. Nelson Cole (D-Rockingham), Rep. Justin Burr (R-Stanly), Rep. Edgar Starnes (R-Caldwell), Rep. Lewis will file a Bill today allowing county commissioners to adopt a resolution canceling a property revaluation and order another evaluation within eight years. Rep. Lewis said “It is obvious to me that family budgets are really strained right now and I believe the evaluation process was flawed and placed many parcels at values much higher than their actual worth. Requiring people to pay more of their already strained budgets in taxes due to inflating their property values is not wise policy.” Lewis added, “The people of Harnett County just can’t take this increase right now. If the Commissioners are indeed willing to provide relief, I am going to do all I can to make sure our state laws do not stand in the way.” <<END>>
