Lewis Named to House Select Committee on the Rural Economy
LEWIS NAMED TO HOUSE SELECT COMMITTEE ON THE RURAL ECONOMY
RALEIGH, NC: North Carolina House Representative David Lewis (R-Harnett) has been named to the North Carolina House of Representatives Select Committee on the Rural Economy. The House Select Committee on the Rural Economy will study all aspects of the economies of the rural counties. North Carolina has 85 counties that are considered to be rural counties and Harnett is among them. The Committee will hold hearings to determine the challenges facing rural areas and prepare legislative solutions to address them. Particular areas for consideration include infrastructure, such as water, sewer, and roads; access to high speed internet; job training; incentives for small business and entrepreneurship; reducing the number of rural citizens living in poverty. Representative Lewis said, I am excited to have the opportunity to serve on this committee. Eight out of ten North Carolinians are employed by small business and this committee will work to strengthen small businesses which, in turn, will build stronger communities. Lewis added, I look forward to bringing a Committee Hearing to Harnett County so that we can increase exposure to the many positive things in our community. The Committee is Co-Chaired by Rep. Jim Harrell (D-Surry) and Rep. Bruce Goforth (D-Buncombe). -End-
