I support the common sense changes made to North Carolina's election laws. In fact, the laws enacted during 2013 brought North Carolina in the mainstream of states on election administration and procedure. Our changes to early voting resulted in a more consistent voting schedule that retains the same number of voting hours as in 2012. By eliminating out of precinct voting, we reduced administrative challenges and made sure each individual votes for all the races they are eligible to vote for. The elimination of same day registration prevented further administrative and verification nightmares for the Board of Elections after not being able to verify thousands of same day registrants over the years. The hyper-partisan attacks on our voting laws are nothing more than political grandstanding. It is my goal to improve the real and perceived integrity of our elections and ensure that each person who wants to vote can vote once and those votes will cumulatively determine our elections.
