- First elected in 2002, David is serving in his 4th term in the North Carolina House of Representatives
- He is as a current or former member of the Committees on Agriculture, Education, Education Sub-Committee on Community Colleges, Election Law and Campaign Finance Reform, Finance, Insurance, Judiciary 3, Military and Veterans’ Affairs, and Transportation and is a former member of the Aging Commission and currently serves on the Program Evaluation Committee
- Co-Owner of Quality Equipment, LLC., a farm equipment dealership employing 168 people, which has been recognized as a John Deere “Signature” Dealer for superior business performance
- Member of the Angier, Coats, Dunn, Erwin, Lillington, and Western Harnett Chambers of Commerce
- Member of the Central Carolina Community College Harnett County Small Business Advisory Board
- Member of the Dunn Kiwanis Club, which named him a “George F. Hixson Fellow”
- Member of the Greater Dunn Jaycees, which presented him with the “Distinguished Service Award”
- Volunteer for Meals on Wheels
- Graduated from Campbell University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, where he served two terms as Student Body President
- Married to the former Michelle Lawrence with whom he has two sons, David Ray and Henry Pierce, and a daughter, Tillie Christine.

- Recognized, in 2006, by the Dunn Jay Cees with their “Distinquished Service Award”
