Raleigh, NC - As the business of the long session at the North Carolina General Assembly winds down, interim committees will begin their business. Rep. David Lewis (R-Harnett) has been appointed to chair the Joint Legislative Elections Oversight Committee and the Legislative Research Commission respectively, to serve as a voting member on the Joint Legislative Commission on Governmental Operations and Legislative Services Commission, and to advise the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on General Government and the Revenue Laws Study Committee.
Since 2015, Rep. Lewis has served as Chairman of the Committee on Rules, Calendar and Operations of the House. In addition, Lewis has been a lead negotiator on many issues throughout his career, including tax reform, election law reform, and redistricting. Lewis' role as a facilitator means he is well suited to chair both the Joint Legislative Elections Oversight Committee and the Legislative Research Commission; his experience in chairing both of these committees in the past will also provide helpful direction and leadership.
“I could not be more excited to begin work on these interim committees,” Lewis said, adding, “The work we have done on these committees in the past has been very satisfying as it often lays the foundation for important reforms in the future.”
